Brighton 10K - Sun 19th November 2017

The Brooks Brighton 10k is a fast, flat R.R.C. accurately measured course along the seafront of Brighton & Hove, with start and finish on Madeira Drive. This is one of our favourite races of the year, and we usually have over 100 runners attending (oaks blokes & Sevenoaks ladies joggers), soeveryone needs to book this date in their diaries

We'll sort out the transport, meals, etc nearer the time.

Wednesday night run from Bucks Head, Godden Green

  • Bucks Head

To take advantage of summer nights, this week we are doing an away run starting at Bucks Head, Godden Green at 7.30pm.

Lots of options to run from here, so run will be a combination of footpaths, tracks, trails & local minor roads.

Weather is expected to be dry and a lovely warm 20C, so you'll need some water for after run, followed by further well earned fluids from the pub.

If you don't normally come Wed evenings, give it a try, but it will be at least 5 miles, and warm. If however you can't make the run, why not join us for a pint.

See you there

This Saturday we are away for the run. We meet at 8am in the car park of the Plough pub at Ivy Hatch. There will be 2 or 3 groups out this weekend. I have all the coaches you need.  We will be taking in the Mitchel and Peach Lavender fields (albeit the photo below is of the Castle farm).  The ladies are away to at the Lullingstone, Castle Farm so not easy for a kid hand over

HERE

Duncan has confirmed coffee and breakfast with the pub. I am happy to offer lifts to those that need one just e-mail be back.

So for those who have not done this one before a beautiful route through some of the finest countryside in Kent - not much in the way of any hills apart from a couple of bumps !!!  Off road shoes only required if we have a down pour if you have them.

See you all then

Best wishes

Wednesday Night Weald away run

  • Weald Village Hall

We are away this Saturday 5th Oct - We will be starting from the Village Green in Weald Village. I have not completely decided which route we will take, but the most likely one is rather more gentle on the hills than you will be used to. It tends to be rolling rather than up and down (I know I am likely to have that quoted back to me on Sat, but that is my recollection of it !).

Run then rugby from the Rugby Club

  • Sevenoaks Rugby Club

This Saturdays 8am run, will be (slightly) away and start from Sevenoaks Rugby Club (end of Plymouth Drive, Sevenoaks, at 8am on 24th June 2017. Duncan, Richard & Lars available, so would aim to start off all together, then split up depending on numbers, abilities, fitness and hangovers, so the run will be suitable for all.

With the British Lions playing the All Blacks, at 8.35am, for those that are interested in watching the match, whilst they might miss the first 30 minutes, they can enjoy the rest of the game, with a tea, coffee or beer if you're really up for it in the Rugby Club Bar. We have spoken to the manager, who has confirmed we can park there free and get bacon butties afterwards if you want.

Parking will be in Rugby Club Car park free of charge.

Away Run above Shoreham (from 7 Diner)

  • Seven Diner

Dear Gents

I went out to look at this run today in preparation for Saturday's run. Despite the passing of the bluebells, it was beautiful. Cool dappled sunlight coming through to light attractive tracks in classic English woodland. A perfect choice for a warm summers day run and it is going to be hot and sunning on Saturday - so a great day to join us.

We start as previously at the 7 Diner up opposite Fort Halstead at 8am.

What will you get ....

  • 5.4 miles of pure magic - so not long. There is only one hard hill so nothing more than normal.
  • A short version that is about 4.2 miles - the same route with short cuts.
  • Some of the best countryside in Kent - Great Views, lovely woods and rolling hills (in the distance - I wouldn’t make you run up any would I?)
  • We pass by the Cross at Shoreham and may drop into the village to run along the river Darenth if you want a bit extra
  • A full range of coffee and dining available at the end

This is another one you will be sorry if you miss.

Best wishes ... David

Saturday Away run - Kemsing

We will meet in village car park, next to the Church, just 50m down the road from "The Bell" pub.

The route is suitable for all, and the coaches will do our best to look after you all, and the route allows us to get us all back to the Bell Pub, where we have organised breakfast. This is one of our better venues in terms of food, service & hospitality, as those that have been before will remember.

Make sure you allow, enough time to get to Kemsing, from where you live. If anyone wants to run from Sevenoaks, then it's a good 3 mile warm up.

So see you all there

Wednesday Evening Run

Gerry will be taking the run this week... and with the nights getting lighter, a dry 9C expected, hopefully the 1st part of the run will be in Knole park, but probably on the paths, so ordinary trainers OK. So something to look forward to. But it's still not light for the whole of the hour, so please remember you still need your hi-vis run wear & head torches. Reminder to follow on Whatsapp...

Ide Hill Away Run - No Big Hills !!

  • Ide Hill Community Shop

Dear Gentlemen

This week is and away run and something even more special than usual - we have never done this one before.

The Bad News ..

There isn’t any - except the weather might change on Saturday.

The Good News ..

so that is all the bad bit covered. So why this one particularly …

  • The run itself is a real treat and has some lovely views along the way.
  • the last time we came here it was a big down hill then a long up hill (there all gone on this run) - so a new experience for you - no big up hill sections !!
  • The community cafe at the end has some of the best views in Kent - better even than St Julians.
  • You know you always feel so good after you make the effort and if you come you will be telling your friends about it and bringing your dog back for a walk here …

The start point is at Ide Hill Community Shop and Cafe HERE free Car parking in front of it or behind it ...

It takes under 10  minutes to get there from hollybush (Yesterday I did it in under 9 min). Drive out of Sevenoaks towards M25 just past Amhurst School turn left and drive for about 5 min and you are there.

If you need a lift let me know. The main rout is not too long at about 5.8 miles but there are extras that can be added and some sort cuts too….

I have a full complement of coaches - So everything is available

If you need a lift let me know

Best wishes

David

Away Run - Kemsing

This Saturday is an away run - and for those in my slower group it is at least half new. It starts at the village Hall car park in Kemsing (as previously) about 1/2 a mile from Otford. The car park is almost opposite the Bell Pub in the centre of the village and has parking for about 30 cars. It is 8 mins drive from Hollybush. The link is below

Here

I have been in to see John and Dennis in the Bell Pub and Dennis has offered to do the full monty Egg, Bacon and sausages Sarnies - Now I went out this morning to test the new version of the route and it was very chilly - so you will need a bit of warming in the pub afterward - I think apart from the coffee and food those needing serious warming will be able to get a small dram as well - I think Duncan is the only one who has so far.

I still think that this run provides the best views in all of Kent and visits some lovely other picturesque areas (albeit, they look better in the spring)

The main Run - Just comes in at 6 miles but there are extras opportunities to extend

The Slow group run - Coming in at 10 metres short of 5 miles - so you may have to run around the car park once.

The slowest group can do a short version of this which ranges from 3.4 to 4 miles

I am putting Lars out with another coach this week, as he does not have a good record of getting back on time here (unless anyone needs marathon training !)

Other key points to note

  • My group - are walking up the hill - no pressure.
  • Those wanting to test yourselves this hill is a 9/10 bas...d hill - so enjoy !!
  • Then it is almost all flat or down hill apart from one up - my lot miss the extra up !!
  • We will take you through 3 fantastic bluebell woods (with no bluebells and we may be a bit early for snowdrops).
  • The pub we have coffee in after (the Bell) has the great Malpas bacon and sausages - so worth stopping for a bite
  • Suitable for beginners - or more steady runners - Yes absolutely - Ian and Lars will have a special route that will give you all the best bits without too much effort.....
  • It was still frozen today (with some snow) so unless it warms up or rains - wear on road shoes rather than off road (particularly my lot)

Best wishes to you all

If you need a lift let me know - by text may be best 07799 476647

See you Sat

Christmas Bash at St. Julian's

I have previously sent you a save the date - I really hope you have got the 15th December 2016 in your diaries.  BOOK NOW - LINK HERE

This is a Thursday evening. We will be at St Julian’s Private Members Club (as we were last year). I very much hope you have enjoyed the previous Christmas meals we have organised and will be joining us again - We hope to do our best to ensure this will be the evening you remember most over the Christmas period.

We meet there from 7.30 pm and will be sat down by 8.15pm latest. We can do the standard shared taxi arrangement for going home (although I am not organising that part) in due course.

To avoid some of the problems we have had in previous years working out the bill and payment - I have included a pre-payment in to the booking form. The cost of £40 includes the 3 course meal and coffee and chocolates at the end. I have also included enough to cover about a glass and a half of wine each, as a start point. It also includes some money to cover the automatic tip required for large parties.

You will recall that most of us probably drank a little more than that, so please bring some cash to cover any additional booze you / we might drink.

So BOOK NOW - HERE
All that is required is to click 'add to cart’ and it will take you to the menu selection part etc

I look forward to seeing you there

Away Run at St. Julians

  • St. Julians Club

Dear Gents

This week is going to be a treat as it is another away run special treat. Please note that I am on my own this week as a coach and I can add and remove bit of the run to make it shorter and longer for fast and medium event medium slower ones, but I will struggle with the slowest ones of Lar’s group (I know Ric and Mark can not make it) - eg both Andy’s - sorry but you don’t often come. I think almost all of the rest of you are fine.

I hope we will be sitting outside in the sunshine post run, and coffee and bacon sarnies should be good too!!

The plus points about St Julians just in case you have not been there before ...

    • St Julians is half way down the hill so you just have to do is just 1/2 a hill - everything else is flat’ish

    • There are lots of options on routes for shorter and longer

    • The beginners who I can not look after are welcome to meet there and go for a run on their own and join us for coffee

For those on the  9.15 change over Dad's let me know at the start and we will make sure you can get back to Hollybush in time

Map link HERE we have done this one before several times. St Julian's private members club on South side of Knole Park.
Any lifts required please email me - otherwise see you all at 8am on Sat.

If sunny wear sun cream - if it is very hot I will change to shady route
Take care

David

PS Richard G - you will be fine to come

Saturday Away Run - Lullingston Park

We did this run in early July last year  see picture below -  It is a great location to run from with some great routes and my old home training ground.

Current planned route has one cat 2 climb ( well that is what we called it last year but in simple terms - a climb that the 2nd group might want to walk up) but other than this small up it is all good and very beautiful with some great views.

Meeting point/parking: 8am, Lullingstone Park Visitor Centre, Castle Road, DA4 0JF (pay and display). The SLJ girls are running after us and may take your ticket if you don’t want it

There is a toilet and a cafe here.

We'll be back to the car park shortly by 9.15 for any Blokes who need to meet up with their wives and kids doing the girls run.

If anybody needs a lift, please text on 07799 476647 for pick up point.
