Last years race was voted 'The Best 10K in the South East and 4th best in the country' by Runners World.
Come and see what it is all about and experience a run through the glorious countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Home run for Wed evening for Oaks Blokes & SLJ ladies and will start from Hollybush Car Park at 7.30pm.
Running on the streets & pavements of Sevenoaks, so please make sure you wear your Hi-Vis vests, light coloured tops, and bring head torches, lights etc, it is essential to be bright in the dark, otherwise you will be invisible to drivers, thank you.
These runs have only just started, and the run is for those runners who are free, working from home or nearby, getting back to running after an injury, retired, in between jobs, or on “gardening leave”, or just interested and available.
These runs will tend to be in and around Knole Park and the surrounding trails and footpaths, and will be slower and sometimes shorter than our normal sat runs, and are usually followed by tea/coffee nearby.
If you’re interested get in contact with me - Duncan (07919 830043)
We are on an away run this Saturday starting at Otford Rec - 8am.
Map link HERE
Only offer the first 1 hour parking free in the Rec Car Park so it may be sensible to bring 50p with you to extend this to 2 hours (£1 for 3hrs to have all the time for a lot of extra coffee – I will try and pack lots of change !!)
This is only 5 min drive from Hollybush Rec, so those that need to be back by 9.15 am to meet (take handovers of) the kids can still do so. Just make sure you let the coach know at the start and we will get you back in time. If you need a lift let me know and I can sort it – please email me or text if it is last minute.
Good coffee and bacon sandwiches at the Pond View Cafe after - for those that can stop.
Whether you have had 6 months or 6 years away from running, the Oaks Blokes Back to Running Course may be just to kick you need to get back to fitness.
The course is designed for complete beginners through to those people who can at least remember the last time they ran for a bus. If you run a bit already, we will assess you on the first session and make sure we put you in the most suitable group for your needs.
It is that time of year where you might expect me to nag you about making running part of your New Year resolutions - but not this year! ! Instead I give you a bit of my own mumbo jumbo rubbish ...
My suggestion is you have at least 2 NY resolutions;
About making you feel good about yourself (if that happens to include getting fit, chatting with mates and joining or rejoining 'probably the best running club in the world'. That is great, but so many NYR's seem to be negative about not doing stuff or eating stuff, drinking stuff - it may be easier to make it positive - eat more good staff (that is good for you ... not cake!)
This one I got from my wife but I like the approach. Rather than saying sorry and feeling bad about what you have done wrong - turn it around to a positive that makes the receiver feel good for what they have done .i.e Thanks for waiting for me ... not sorry I am late.
Anyway, if you don't like that forget it and just go back to the trusted resolution of running more with Oaks Blokes. This is an important time of year for us - so please help if you can.
So new year and new recruitment - I think we have 2 or 3 already signed up for the new Back to Running course starting on 9th Jan run by Ian. But that means this week we again ask you to nag friends and associates to come along and join you in our bring a bloke day. For ease and simplicity the next two weeks will certainly be a home run.
For those that have fallen on non running times - nag yourself to come back !!
So see you all Saturday, Hollybush at 8am
Best wishes and Happy New year
and start on a positive note !!!
Xmas Eve Family Run - Free Just wear something Christmas'sy
This is 9am from Hollybush - family are welcome but if you bring a child you will need to be able to stay with them (unless they are an older child). We will have a walking group (4.5 - 5 mils), a gentle jog group (3 miles) and a normal group around 5 miles. - there will be at least 6 coaches there - so we may slip further depending on who is there.
This is a Wednesday evening (so you'll have to miss the run that night!).
We will be at St Julian’s Private Members Club (as we were last year). I very much hope you have enjoyed the previous Christmas meals we have organised and will be joining us again - We hope to do our best to ensure this will be the evening you remember most over the Christmas period.
We meet there from 7.30 pm and will be sat down by 8.15pm latest. We can do the standard shared taxi arrangement for going home (although I am not organising that part) in due course.
£38 - Please sign up in the SHOP.
This week will be a home run but all those attending are requested to wear something pink in support of the charity fund raising for Breast Cancer Care’s Pink Run - I am sure most of you will know someone who has suffered form it, it seems so common that it has to be a good charity to support.
Runners who dont have anything pink to wear are welcome to buy a Pink T shirt from me for £5 which I will be selling just before we start. I hope those who don't want to buy one, may still like to make a donation in the charity collection pot regardless. We will be starting at Holybush but drinking coffee at the end in the cafe on the vine as we did two weeks ago.
Following a number of requests to add a bit of 10K type training in to a Saturday run - I will look to offer this on a regular basis over the next few weeks. These will be hard’ish work but will be geared as always so you can do them regardless of your running ability or speed and you always have the option to push yourself more or less during them according to how you feel. I may even see if we can set the fire alarm off again with another bacon sarnie !!!
Those at last nights curry would have seen Ian is out with his shoulder for a few weeks but this week I think I have everyone else available on the coaching team - so I suggest almost all of us who were there last night need to counter balance the slightly negative effect of it. Those that were not should definitely come and those that have not been for ages - what better reason to make a comeback
Look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning at 8am
We will be running from the start point of behind the Crown Point Pub - There is loads of free parking on the road beside the pub.
We will coffee (and bacon sarnie - if you want to let me know in advance I will pre oder most so they are read for our arrival) at Reuthe’s which is 150 yards away but has somewhat limited parking spaces. Ferg says the sarnies are good! There are loads of routes to run from there - in fact there is almost a flat one (once you have climbed 40 meters). There is the interesting ancient hill fort of Albury Woods, and interesting mount bike down hill path and a couple of cracking view points.
Weather looks fine about 14C which should be OK for post run coffee. I am good for coaches apart from Duncan and Ian.
I have timed the drive at that time of the morning and it takes between 6 and 7 min from Hollybush - so it is not far.
If you want a lift do please let me know and I will pick you up.
Look forward to seeing you there… David
We are away this Saturday 5th Oct - We will be starting from the Village Green in Weald Village. I have not completely decided which route we will take, but the most likely one is rather more gentle on the hills than you will be used to. It tends to be rolling rather than up and down (I know I am likely to have that quoted back to me on Sat, but that is my recollection of it !).
AWAY run this Wed evening 7.30pm from outside Bucks Head, Godden Green - 15th August 2018, currently showing a warm 20C.
The Run/Session this Wednesday will be a run, suitable for all, taking advantage of the variety of trails that lead from the Bucks Head, we will have sufficient coaches.
Please join us for a beer or cold drink after run at the Bucks Head, if you can't make the run, then just join us for a beer or cold drink
We are open to all runners, and whether you are one of the Oaks Blokes, who hasn't been for a while, or SLJ runners trying out one these merged/mixed runs for the first time, we'll look after you, we just ask that you can run at least 5K. There is no need to worry, we will look after you all. So come out and give it a go.
See you there...
This Saturday is only the second running of this away run ever by Oaks Blokes - plus a Coffee and Bacon Sandwich overlooking the waters of Chevening Lake .
The location of the Start for those looking for a full 6 mile route is by the Bricklayers Arms in Chevening village - The link is given below.
This route does start on the road as we run to the stunning Chevening House. This means if you want to run less you can meet us closer to Chevening House - I would suggest back at the cross Roads just at the Chevening House side - This will take slightly over a mile off the distance and bring it down to about 4.8 miles (if you are doing this version let mw know and we will be there at about 8.10am
Point A - HERE - This is by the Brick Layers Arms Pub
Point B - HERE - Nearer Chevening House
From there we go off in to some fantastic countryside passing the view shown in the picture below.
Now there is a “bit of an Up” at this point and it is quite tough (not as bad as Kemsing), the good news is there is only this one !! The second half is almost all down hill then flat - what a great way to finish.
The Bricklayers Arms were great last time we visited, the egg and bacon sanies were great and quite cheap, as I recall. So don’t miss out on this one.
The weather looks like it is going to be great for Saturday (there are shady bits in the run). Come to run in road shoes. If you need a lift to the start - please let me know
THIS WILL BE A TREAT, I promise
There are two options this week - the run will either be at 5:30pm or be cancelled, if not enough interest. So please let me know if you can come, JUST IF YOU CAN COME, Idon't need your response if you are not coming
Some of the runners have asked, whether we will still be running on Wed evening, since as some of you might have noticed England are through to Semi Final of the World Cup, and the KO for this match v Croatia at 7pm Wed Evening, and many of us want to watch this match live, either at home or in a pub. To accommodate this I have rearranged this HOME run from Hollybush, for an earlier start.
So for one week only our HOME run for Wed evening will start from Hollybush at 5.30pm - 11th July 2018, currently showing a warm 21C, but suspect it might be warmer, so make sure you drink plenty of water before the run, and bring water for afterwards.
We are on an away run this Wednesday starting at Otford Rec - 8am.

Great run last week, and good to see the start of our merged/mixed group between SLJ and Oaks Blokes. Feedback sounded very good, I sure this is a start of great things
So the Weather continues to be good, so to take advantage of this warmer weather, this week run will be AWAY in Otford, followed by a beer in the Bull Pub, for those that want to join us, open to you all, please give yourself more time to get there.
Away run this Wed evening 7.30pm from Otford Recreation Car Park (opposite the Bull Pub) 13th June 2018, currently showing a dry & sunny 17C
The Run/Session this Wednesday will be suitable for all, taking advantage of the flatter runs that are available in this area. We are open to all runners, especially those that have been putting off their come back, or who might be recovering from an injury, or concerned about their overall fitness. If you are concerned whether you can keep up, as long as you can run 5k or more, no particular speed, then there is no need to worry. We will look after you all. So come out and give it a go.
We will meet in village car park, next to the Church, just 50m down the road from "The Bell" pub.
The route is suitable for all, and the coaches will do our best to look after you all, and the route allows us to get us all back to the Bell Pub, where we have organised breakfast. This is one of our better venues in terms of food, service & hospitality, as those that have been before will remember.
Make sure you allow, enough time to get to Kemsing, from where you live. If anyone wants to run from Sevenoaks, then it's a good 3 mile warm up.
So see you all there...
Help us celebrate the running of the first Boston Marathon on this day in 1897, now the oldest annual marathon race (thought we should get a running reference in here somewhere); also Jayne Mansfield's birthday. I leave it to you to decide which was the more significant event. But we could drink to both.
Deal: 22 quid per head, includes: hot and cold meze followed by mixed grill comprising Lamb shish, lamb chops, adana, chicken kofte, chicken shish, chicken wings served with rice and salad, PLUS your first beer, and tip. Subsequent beers / wine / raki you buy yourself from the bar.
Vegetarian option available, but you must let me know in advance.
Payment: 22 sovs, to Dom, in advance (he promises not to leave the country). No payment, no place at the table. You can give him cash if you see me at a run, or transfer to:
Account name: D Haslam
Account number: 60380547
Reference: your name (please be specific - 'Dave' doesn't quite nail it)
This way settling the bill is easy and there are no issues about who had what or who left having forgotten to pay!
We need a minimum of 30 to reserve the whole bar area upstairs, if fewer we will have a long L-shaped table by the bar. I suspect if there is anyone else in that area they will leave quite quickly anyway.
Please let me know asap if you will be able to come. Those who have already done so via WhatsApp do not need to say it again - just send the money!
Hope you can join us!
Easter is here - so apart from being busy and think about eating loads of chocolate … we also think of the new born lambs, mostly because they will be well tasty in 6 months time.
So whilst they are all new and cute etc I thought we would go on the running version of an Easter egg hunt and that is the Easter Lamb hunt. Now we are a little earlier than usual this year and I can not guarantee close sighting but their were definitely some last weekend. So lets get into the Easter spirit’ish - with a lamb run by and coffee. No it may be better than that really ….. we may even see a bunny !!!
However, as it is Easter and I suspect many of you will be on limited freedom, rather than going away this week, we are going to be back at home 8am Hollybush.
Anyway, plenty of slow groups this week like last week - so don't hold back in coming due to unfitness or recent slovenliness.
See you Saturday... Dave
Something very different this week - with Duncan not recovered yet and Gerry unavailable, I am back organising a session.
This one is going to be something very different - A rest based strength session - in doors
No running ability needed and all fitness levels welcome - ie it is open to ANYONE (really any member is welcome)
There is only one criteria - You must be willing to ache, 24 - 48 hours after.
There were a few moans about my last session - I don't think this will be as hard but I think you will ache more !!!
So there is the hard sell
No need to dress for wet or cold this week as we are in doors. I will meet you in Hollybush at 7.30pm and will jog gently over to the studio (300 meters) where you will be suitably entertained.
This is a one off session as the studio is not being used this week - Those of you who have heard Rene moaning about his aches will get a chance to see what he is talking about. This sort of stuff is great for improving your running and preventing running injury too.
Come and give it a go - It will be fun
This Saturday is an away run. We meet at 8am in the car park of the Plough pub at Ivy Hatch - This is actually less than 10 min drive from Hollybush. There will be at least 3 groups possibly more, out this weekend. Duncan is not back yet following is Operation
We might have two slower groups this week with our very own Nordic Navigator taking one and Ian with the Back to Running group. This is venue is ok for those doing a kids hand over just make sure you let us know at the start, you need to be back by 9am. If we get late Sam says she will start the SLJ 9.15am group with a 10 min loop in the town centre to give you time to make it.
I have confirmed coffee but NO SARNIES (sorry) with the pub but if you want bacon sarnies the cook arrives at 10am - so you might get lucky.
So for those who have not done this one before there are 3 beautiful routes through some of the finest countryside in Kent from here - not much in the way of any hills, the only ‘Basted' you will see is the village - if we do that route. Off road shoes if you have them follow the recent rain, I suspect - although it may be cold enough to freeze...
